Random House of Canada's Olympic Readathon

Are you an Olympic nut?  Which events do you look forward to the most?

I am a HUGE fan of the Olympics, more so the winter than the summer, but it doesn't really matter to me.  There is something special about cheering as a country for your teams, your athletes, your heroes.  I love the spirit that the Olympics bring.  Everyone seems connected for those two short weeks.

This year, the Olympics are in London, England and while the time zone will interefere with my enjoyment of most live events, I am sure that I will be able to partake in my share of cheering.  However, in booklover fashion, no Olympic Games would be complete without a good ole fashion readathon!!

Random House of Canada has put together an Olympic Readathon to help those of us who seem to be lagging a little on our summer to-be-read (TBR) piles.  If you are interested in following along with the participants, make sure to follow the Twitter hashtag #OlympicReadathon.  Want to join and read along with us?  Click this link to go to the Random House of Canada Retreat page and you can sign up as well!  The #OlympicReadathon will run the entire length of the Olympic games, July 27th to August 12th.

Lucky for me, I will also be travelling to Las Vegas during the #OlympicReadathon which means TWO planes rides for a total of NINE hours of non-stop reading!!  This should help greatly towards me exceeding my goal of 1,500 pages.  Now that I think about it... maybe I should have said higher?!?!  Oh well, better to blow it out of the water than not make it, right???

On my #OlympicReadathon Deck:

So, who is with me?  Comment below and let me know if you too are going to be in this year's #OlympicReadathon so I can be sure to follow along with your progress and cheer you on to a GOLD MEDAL finish!

Happy Reading!

GO CANADA GO!!

  1. Yay! I too, perhaps undershot what my reading is likely to be. But I don't want to be pressured to read through my favorite events!

  2. I'm looking forward to this! I think it's such a fun idea! I'm probably also going to go way over my goal of 1,300 (I decided to be a little different among the 2,000, 1,500, and 1,000 goals, haha) but you're right, it's better to blow it out of the water than fail miserably. That may not be the best way to approach it but that's ok by me :)

    1. I like to think of my goal as the World Record and the goal of any Olympic athlete is to shatter it, right?!?! LOL

    2. Ah haha - just seeing this now. Love it! :) I'll make you a gold medal if you blow your goal out of the water. Seriously. Ok, well it won't be real gold...but it'll still be a medal! haha

  3. I'm in! I'm not a huge fan of the Olympics - though I'm in the UK and I did join in with the 'must get a photo of the Torch' fever - so for me this read-a-thon will be a perfect antidote rather than a nice supplement! I've set my goal at 850 pages because I'm at work for most of it, and I'll be updating on my blog and on Twitter (@Bookshop_Girl). See you at the starting blocks! :)

  4. Not much of an Olympic fan either (don't tell my husband) but I love love love the books you have here. SUCH A RUSH is one of my favorites! And I have BUTTER & ISLAND on my GoodReads list too... I just added Last Summer! I haven't heard of that one so thanks for the suggestion! I love that cover.

Great job as always. I'm really enjoying your blog a lot.

  6. I love the summer Olympics, especially the aquatic events -- swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, and synchronized diving. Unfortunately, there's only so much sports broadcasting that I can cope with, so with hubby pre-empting the TV, I'll be reading. And those airplane rides are WONDERFUL for racking up the pages. I have 3 of them scheduled during this Read-a-Thon and you can bet that I'll be reading while in the air.
