It's that special day when we celebrate the woman who brought us into the world and taught us to survive. This year, I am so thankful for my little man and the smile that lights up his face when I arrive to pick him up from daycare everyday. He really is the light of my life and I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world. When I think of Mother's Day past, I think of all the crazy gifts that I gave to my mother and shudder to think how she would have had to put on a brave face and say 'Thank You' while cringing inside. But you know what, now that I am a mother, I realize that it's not what you receive that matters but the love that went into it. My son is 4 and if I am honest, a picture that he drew with his name writen on it would warm my heart more than a gift bought at the store.
However, not all of us feel that way so I came up with a simple 'book-lovers' gift guide for our hubbies/children to follow to ensure that Mom has a wonderful day!
Breakfast in Bed
Who doesn't love being woken up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, the smell of bacon grilling and the sound of little ones in the kitchen with Dad? Breakfast in bed can be very simple and easy to do and still provide a big bang for your buck. Mom will appreciate not only the sleep-in that comes along with the meal but the love in her childs eyes as he/she delivers the meal. Paired with a homemade card, this is sure to be a winner.Coffee Mugs and Candles
What book-lover doesn't also love coffee/tea? A homemade coffee mug, either from scratch or one that you can paint yourself, is the perfect complement to good afternoon spent reading. It is a present that will last throughout the years and bring an instant smile to all Mom's faces as they remember the day they received it.
Candles are another of those wonderful items that book-lovers seem to enjoy. Personally, I like having a room with a pleaseant scent as I read and my favourite candles are from Bath & Body Works in the scent Sweet Pea. However, candles can be purchased anywhere and as long as the scent is fresh and soft, Mom's will enjoy them for a long time to come.Book Jewelry
Bookmarks are so valuable to a book-lover's world. Never wanting a dog-earred corner, a book-lover will use just about anything to save their spot. Why not present Mom with a gorgeous bookmark that she will love to use. My personal favourites are the beaded bookmarks that go through your entire book as they tend to hold the spot better than the standard bookmarks. You can also make these fairly easy and add a personal touch. If you aren't a 'crafter', Etsy has some wonderful stores in which you can purchase some. Here is one that is perfect for Mother's Day!Books
Of course, an obvious choice, right?!?! But what books do you buy a book-lover who had more books than they can count? Well, why not start a new collection of gorgeous classics. Penguin has recently released a set of hardcover classics with gorgeous covers and really affordable prices. Choosing a gift that has multiple items included allows for a yearly gift that Mom will look forward to for years to come.Whatever you choose to do, do it with love and your mom will appreciate it that much more.
I wish all of my fellow Mom's a very wonderful, love-filled day.

My sister and I are getting my mom a book, tea, and a candle. Obviously this means that you have compiled an excellent list. :) Happy Mother's Day!
