Mommy Reading: Baby Lit Books

Happy Easter weekend to all of my fellow book lovers.  This weekend is the first weekend long weekend of the year and the first time that my family will be getting together to celebrate a holiday.  Not only will there be lots of chocolate and lots of games but this year, I am hoping there will be lots of new holiday traditions.

My family had two little girls added to it in 2011 and this is the first Easter for both (no, they are not my little ones but my sister and cousin's).  To me, one of the best gifts you can give little ones is the gift of reading.  I know how much I have grown to love books and truly believe that it stems from early childhood.  Each holiday, I have chosen to give books as gifts in hopes that mommies will carry on my love of reading to their children.

This Easter, I am so happy to have been given the opportunity to review a new line of baby books called Baby Lit.

Baby Lit is brought to us by the publishers Gibbs Smith and the author Jennifer Adams (illustrator Alison Oliver).

With the perennial popularity of classic writers like Lewis Carroll, Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, and William Shakespeare, BabyLit® is a fashionable way to introduce your toddler to the world of classic literature. With clever, simple text by Jennifer Adams, paired with stylish design and illustrations by Sugar's Alison Oliver, BabyLit® books are a must for every savvy parent's nursery library. ~ Gibb Smith

The two books that I was provided for review were Alice in Wonderland and Jane Eyre.

Alice in Wonderland

I adored the story of Alice in Wonderland when I was young and was so happy to see this as one of the titles in the Baby Lit catalogue.

When I first opened the book, I was surprised to see that it really was geared to very young children.  A board book with gloriously painted pictures that takes you through the entire story.  Alice in Wonderland uses the simple colour system as a way of not only teaching kids the joy of reading but also helping them learn their colours.

Whether it's the WHITE Rabbit or Alice's BLACK Shoes, this Baby Lit book will be a hit with all mommies.

Jane Eyre

Having never read Jane Eyre (yes, I know... bad Mommy), I wasn't sure what to expect with this book but was equally impressed with it's quality.

Staying with the simple style of Alice in Wonderland, the Jane Eyre book uses counting as it's secret to keeping children interested while parents know that kids are learning as well as enjoying.  Again, the stunning art work within this book are enough to make it worth buying.

Overall Impressions

An amazing concept for mommies who have a love of reading.  While I do believe the books are geared towards children under 2-years of age, they are definitely books to be taken care of and kept in a library for years afterwards.

With four titles in the collection thus far, I am hoping that the team of Jennifer Adams and Gibbs Smith continue to produce more and more of these books as I would love to continue a collection for all the little ones in my life.  Well done!
