Double Take #1

Double Take is a new feature at Turning the Pages.  It is a place to share those book covers that we swear we have seen before on a different books.  While not meant to be a regular feature, it will be something that I will be making more of an effort to point out.

We all know that authors, publicists, graphic designer, etc, all have access to the same database of pictures and it happens, every once in a while, a book is released with a similar looking cover to one that has been released before.  In Double Take, the idea is to showcase those books that we have come across.

Without further adieu, here is my most recent Double Take:

Book One: The Single Girl's To-Do List by Lindsey Kelk

Trade Paperback release date: July 25, 2011
Publisher: HarperCollins UK

Summary (from chapters.ca):

Rachel Summers loves a to-do list:
Boyfriend
Flat
Great job

NOT on the list:
Being dumped

Best friends Emelie and Matthew ride to her rescue with an entirely new kind of list - The Single Girl's To-Do List. Rachel doesn't know it, but it will take her on all kinds of wild adventures - and get her in some romantic pickles too. And then it won't be a case of what but who she decides to tick off...

Mr. bendy yoga instructor
Mr. teenage sweetheart
Mr. persistent ex
Mr. deeply unsuitable

Book Two: In the Bag by Kate Klise

Release date: May 1, 2012
Publisher: HarperCollins

Summary (from chapters.ca):
A European vacation. A luggage mix-up. A note from a secret admirer.

Meet two single parents who think they're too busy to date.  And two teenagers who can't stop writing flirty emails.  This is a tale of connections - missed and made - in a universe that seems to have its heart set on reuniting Ms. 6B and Mr. 13C.

Webb -  I can't believe I picked up the wrong bag at the airport. My dad is never going to let me hear the end of it.
Coco - I don't understand why Mom told me to pack my worst underwear. And now I've lost my bag? Ack!

Andrew -   I cannot stop thinking about that woman in seat 6B on the flight to Paris.
Daisy -  I don't have time to worry about the creep sitting in 13C who slipped a note in my purse. I have to find my daughter's missing bag before this ruins our vacation.

Oddly enough, these two books not only fall within the same genre, but they are by the same publisher.  Hmmm, strange.  Here is a side-by-side of the covers:

Do you have a Double Take that you would like to share?  Please leave me a link in the comments section as I would love to know if I am the only one who notices these or not!

  1. Oh, weird!! I've seen a few sets of similar covers lately but this one isn't even trying to be different! And both from HC! (albeit UK vs not) but so weird!

  2. I have been noticing quite a few of these "Double Takes" lately, and oddly enough, used by the same publisher too! I guess they're doubling up to save time? money? I wish they wouldn't do it, some covers really help make a book memorable... although, this one is really pretty! I actually prefer the one with the yellow suitcase/floor and red title, cute!
    Thanks for sharing :)

    1. Get out of town... another cover with the same picture! I am stunned! Will have to do a follow-up post for it! :)

    2. I was so surprised when I saw it! It took me a second to place it but I'm pretty sure my jaw dropped and I pointed at my laptop when I saw it...which would have been less awkward had I not been alone... :)
